Pilot Project for Hygiene and Sanitation in Health Centers in the Health Zone of Pobé-Adja-Ouèrè-Kétou

Date : May 2025 - 2026 | Communes : Pobè, Adja-Ouèrè, Kétou, Plateau

CACD-NGO, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, implemented a participatory approach to improve the maintenance of health centers (HCs) in the municipalities of Pobè, Adja-Ouèrè and Kétou, with a focus on women's empowerment and nutrition. At each HC, a group of women is responsible for transforming green spaces into small gardens, making the most of available land to produce fresh vegetables while beautifying the living environment. Twice a week, they sweep yards and paths to remove waste and dust and carry out weeding to remove the market garden plots to promote healthy plant growth. Thanks to these frequent actions, the health centers benefit from a more welcoming environment, conducive to the health of patients and staff, while contributing to the empowerment of local women through gardening.

Results

  • More than 350 participants, including many young people and children, demonstrated the new generation's appropriation.

  • Capacity building for local artists, who shared and transmitted their knowledge.

  • Cultural memory revitalized
